A fox in sheep’s clothing? Teddy Afro frowned up on.

The controversial Ethiopian singer-cum-poet Tewodros kassahun aka Teddy Afro is in big trouble here in South Africa asThe controversial Ethiopian singer Tewodros kassahun aka Teddy Afro is in big trouble here in South Africa. raging refugees already boycotted his concert scheduled for Sunday 20 Jan 2012 in Johannesburg after news emerged that Ethiopian embassy officials and TPLF cadres will use the occasion to market the so called renaissance dam bond sale.

Many are arguing that if the young singer who becomes overlord, stern and haughty is still worth listening to.

“This foxy and skinflint Teddy cannot always claim that he has been led astray by his manager or someone he trusted. His concert is written TPLF all over it and the timing is scandalous to say the least.” The singer’s best friend who grew up with him at Addis Ketema district of Addis Ababa told the Horn Times.

The friend who requested anonymity for fear of attacks on his family back home further said Teddy’s new approach is that he wants to be seen by the ruling minority junta as a useful unifying force and a champion of peace and reconciliation while at the same time wishes to remain in the heart of Ethiopians as fearless patriot and the true voice of freedom and  change.

“But I do not know how he is going to manage to keep both balls in the air, the frightful storm is coming.” The angry friend who distanced himself from the concert added.

The Horn Times then tracked down the divisive individual who brought Teddy Afro for Sunday’s concert, a feared TPLF stalwart here in South Africa and former human smuggler known as Ato Alem. However, he nervously refused to say a word and threatened to sue the Horn Times editor if “anything bad” is reported about Teddy or Sunday’s concert.

Furthermore, Teddy Afro, the man who makes millions by capitalizing on the insatiable hunger of Ethiopians for patriotic voices, didn’t make any attempt to meet members of the Ethiopian community association in South Africa or leaders of Bête- Ethiopia.

What TPLF is doing is actually to kill the spirit of Ethiopia. Why did TPLF sent Teddy with the pro TPLF group is because so that the diaspora is turned away from Teddy, therefore no song to promote Ethiopia for the soccer so that Ethiopia can win the world cup when you have so much support. They never sent Teddy with anyone before in the past and why when soccer team is taking place is that so that not to empower Ethiopians therfore Ethiopia’s name will not be popular again. So it is a trick. Besides, if TPLF forces Teddy to do this, it is not that he can do anything anyways.

I think Teddy afro is simply a greedy business man. i absolutely agree with his friend comment about teddy trying to eat with two forks. if he truly love and respect the people of Ethiopia who stood with him during his hard times, he would speak up about their injustice without no fear. he knows what the diaspora wants from him and he knows exactly the people within Ethiopia expect from him. for instance when he was getting for his tour in US, he had a concert in Ghion hotel where he sang ja yasteserial and all of us here in diaspora went nuts thinking teddy is back singing the truth. but i think he did that to insure his ticket sells in diaspora. sure enough when he arrived in DC and held his concert he refused to sing the same song he sand in Hilton. Teddy afro is just another opportunist who is taking advantage of the poors.

This is very unfortunate. We have one brave singer and we have to attack him. And who is this person criticzing Teddy? Has he done anythng to make things better in Ethiopia? What gives him or her the mora authority to question the motive and integrity of Teddy?

Not everyone need to use the same words to condemn Woyane. Teddy has rendered a great deal of service to Ethiopia through his songs and poems and he deserves affection and respect.

Do better than others before rushing to condemn.

Guys- please live Teddy alone. TPLF always wants TEddy afro to be discredited by majority ethiopians. Please, please do not push Teddy to the TPLF camp. let us be aware of that.

Sad to hear this kind of greedyness. When Tedy was in prison it was the Ethiopian people who stand with and for him so he should stand with a true Ethiopian too. for those of you who are talking nonsense keep your mouth shut.Betty Girma,Ethiopia.

In the first place, our problem is that we are unfortunately victims of singers, artists, poets, athlets /sportsmen -women, religious leaders, elders who use very emotional/instinctive nature and aspiration of the innocent people of ethiopia for their own various ulterior motives ( financial, material, cheap popularity and even some sort of authoritative/political rooms). I think we are not short of examples of these kinds of people who are muddling and/or being companions of the dirty/bloody political game in our country . Haven’t we had a very clearly stupid and outragous drama played by the “coaliation of elders for reconciliation” led by Professor Ephrem Yeshaq, Paster Daniel ,Athlet Haile and a dozen of others right after the 2005 election? Are we not hearing about the same drama of “great mission” moving around the Kaliti prison ( better to call it hell) once again with the same “elders ” who seem extremely shameful and disingenous/dishonest ? Aren’t we witnessing another extremely ugly and dangerous game being plyed by “great artists” in Addis Ababa being couched and directed by very disgraceful and ill-driven personalities such as Serawit Fikre, Mulualem , Getnent Eneyew and etc.? Haven’t we had very strong evidence how very few former socer players of Ethiopia have been hijacked by the power of money and tried to destroy the 29 – year old Ehtionian Sport Federation in North Amercia with a big deal of money offered by Al Moudi and a very dirty political conspiracy orchastreted by the tyrannical ruling cirlce? Didn’t we come across an extremely disgraceful if not idiotic song of Solomn Tekalegn who is of course very naive politically ( Beautiful is his eye brow -to Ato the late Meles) who has turned around himself in an incredible manner ? Aren’t we witnessing the on going extremely wicked, hypocritical and dangerous drama being played by “religious leaders” which is well- designed and directed by the deadly parasitic members of the inner circle of the ruling party? So, I am not surprised at all if Tedy Afro who is just a singer ( famous?) becomes part of the “great and dramatic” tail -wagging dance of a highly poluted/rotten but dangerous political club. I do not think it is rationally /realistically convincing to believe that Tedy is an exeption for the simple reaon that he has sang songs such “Yesteseryal and Tikursew”. If these kinds of songs were the reasons to believe that a singer is safely and truly patriotic, Solomon Tekalegn had sang “great political and patriotic songs.” I wish it could work as we wish to be .But it did work that way ,and it will not !! Any way, watch out and acrefully and rationally and move/act accordingly!1

One thing too early to lobby or take position against Teddy. Let’s first see what happens and we can argue after. Just because Getahun has an issue with the promoter, Alem or Teddy fails to meet Bete Ethiopia, he doesn’t have to write such a subjective piece on Teddy. ECADF has to think and read twice before publishing such stuffs too. As pro democracy activists, we have to embrace rational minds like Teddy than push them.
    So have patience.

if this is true, this is really crazy and not good news at all!

But Teddy is in a bad position: he wants to keep a leg in the country (ie I can’t see him being in exile fighting TPLF)and he does not want to betray Ethiopians…he served almost 2 years in prison on a false accusation, and today for him to accept TPLF logo on his concert, men that ‘s no good at all! He should stay neutral, stay out of politics and if needed cancel his trip to stay out of it…but he married also a girl from the NOrth, so family must be pressure him…the man is lost, I doubt he has great intellectual capacity to analyse all the complexe issue…his true heart I believe is Ethiopian but TPLF machinery can destroy him…a catch 22! TEDDY IF YOU READ THIS WEB PAGE, TALK TO AN ADVISOR AND FIRE YOUR MANAGER!
