Ethiopian tyrant Meles Zenawi said he will not release Birtukan Mideksa ever!

Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi denied allegations by opponents that his government has kept foreign food aid from people who refuse to support his ruling Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front.
“If they are saying the system is designed in such a way that people who are hungry will be allowed to die or continue to be hungry if they are not members of the party, that is outrageous and stupid,” he said in a press conference today in the capital, Addis Ababa. “There is no such system. There will never be such a system.”
Members of Ethiopia’s opposition including Beyene Petros of the United Ethiopian Democratic Forces and Gizachew Shiferaw of the Unity for Democracy and Justice party have accused the government of withholding food aid given by the U.S. and other donors from opposition supporters.
The prime minister also turned aside U.S. State Department concerns expressed yesterday about press freedom and a law restricting foreign funding of human rights and pro-democracy groups ahead of national elections scheduled for May.
Earlier this month, the country’s largest private newspaper, Addis Neger, closed after its top editors fled the country, accusing the government of using a new anti-terror law to silence the press. That led the U.S. Embassy to issue a statement today expressing concern that such moves “contribute to a perception that space for independent media in Ethiopia is constrained.”
‘Last Word’
“We don’t take this institution seriously because they have proven to us over and over again they take any accusation against the government as the last word in the Bible,” Meles said of the shuttered publication.
The prime minister said the human rights law, which limits organizations that lobby for democracy, good governance and women’s rights from getting more than 10 percent of their funds from foreign sources, was consistent with practices in industrialized democracies.
He also said his ruling party would not negotiate with the opposition over the release of jailed UDJ leader Birtukan Mideksa, who was imprisoned in December 2008 after the government accused her of violating terms of a 2007 pardon that temporarily released her from a life sentence.
Amnesty International considers her a prisoner of conscience, and her supporters say she was jailed for building a party with the potential to beat Meles’ EPRDF in a free and fair election.
“There will never be an agreement with anybody to release Birtukan,” he said. “Ever. Full stop. That’s a dead issue.”

It seems her other hope to be released is after change of government. It is kind of surprising that Ethiopian lawyers around the world are not writing legal papers on this to share with the public.
TIME FOR ALL WOYANES TO GO DOWN IS COMING CLOSER AND CLOSER….MELESE IS ON THE VIRGE OF TEARS…LOL..EVEN THE US EMBASSY START TALKING ABOUT THIS WENBEDE SWEEEEET!!!!….ONE THING THIS WENEBEDE NEED TO KNOW IS THAT WE WILL FREE BIRTUKAN WETHIER HE LIKES IT OR NOT…IT’S NOT HIS CHOICE IT’S OUR CHOICE….I FEEL THE PRESSURE RISING EVERY DAY….AND MELESE KNOW HE IS GOING DOWNNNNNN….
WOYANEWECH….FENDUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Now, we know their stand and we better focus on our stand. What would the EDP and AEUP say about the agreement they signed for the release of political prisoners.
I just happened to view PM Meles’s December 12th conference on aigaforum.com. His argument on Birtukan’s case is also revealed there as well. He is dead set that, it is a done case….no chance for her release. A superb legal strategy might be some option. Lawyers really need to look into this case in depth.
any poltical organization particpate for 2010 election before the realese of poltical prisoners, are the enemise of ethiopian
More than TPLF, they will going to take the responsiblity. I call ethiopians that the coming elections must watershed
it is the group of criminals election !
Any opposition party which will participate in 2010 th election will share Melese’s crime against humanity and against ethiopia as a nation. For those loyal TPLF’s the so called oppositions should know that they can not do their trash political business as usual in the name of our hunger people and Birtukan. We know that Melese will not release Birtukan at least untill his non existed free and fair election will over in may. Dictaor and scarciy Melese has got a good lesson from 2005’s election and He is 100% sure that Birtukan will knock out him out of a game field unless he keeps her behind the door. Her political maturity, her ethnice background [ Birtukan could be a bridge between the two marority ethnice groups ] and her firm stand against his dictatorial regime and her refusal to be his loyal opposition like shilu hailu and hode ader kedetu made Melese crazy. Melese knows that he can not win any election against real opposition parties. he needs people who have two tongues with in one mouth and liars. God bless the lawyer of democracy and freedom [ Birtukan]in ethiopia.

These are desperate words from a desperate man. They are also impudent words uttered in the presence of his Western masters who groomed and supported him throughout the years where, with some displeasure, might now observe that he is too big for his boots.
These words are not indeed the usual weasel and diplomatically even tempered words showing a relative composure of a man in charge of his situation.
What the above quoted petulant words mirror is the mind of an emotionally perturbed and insecure tyrant. The name Bertukan has always provoked a strong emotion in Meles. He fears and therefore detests that name. His sharp and unerring instinct which has carried him through the years outwitting all his former TPLF and other adversaries tells him that this ‘anonymous,
inexperienced and awkward young woman’ would eventually prove to be his Achilles hill.
While he knows he is a man of the past and the finite present, the young and charismatic Bertukan represents the future.
The current mounting domestic pressure, the pressure coming from the U.S,its most important ally and the pressure from Europe especially from the august and neutral Vatican, evoking that instinctive fear, are giving him a severe headache.
The apparent finally of his words betray that things are far from final for the agitated Meles.
Whether he likes or not, there will surely come a time when Meles will be forced to release Bertukan. She is synonymous with freedom. And he can not stem the unrelenting tide of freedom.
Obama in his recent speech in Norway said–“make no mistake, evil does exist in the world” we Ethiopians have the proof of that evil–our own Crime Minister Meless. At least, Meless can put her under house arrest so that she can be with her young daughter. Meless is psychologically torturing Judge Biritukan, her young daughter, her mother and the rest of her family just because he can–what an evil man.
ERROR:Please read line 21 of my comment at #8 as’ The apparent finality…’
meles has reassert his harshness toward birtukan which abiye /addis neger/told us in his recent article
Freedom for Birtukan is know.Election is coming any opposition party who will participate in election must be again must be their precondition must be the release of all political prisoners.
What Hailu shawul did dead wrong ,it is sin an beliveable.
Only last year, Meles said that promoting commercial farming would be ’stupid’ (he loves that word). Now he can’t stop selling Ethiopian land to commercial interests!
Meles’ statements are worthless. But boy is he bad at PR. The most hated man in the world, probably, because he keeps running off at the mouth.

It has never been surprising to hear these kinds of senseless authoritative statements from a ruthless dictator who is becoming frustrated and suffering from his criminal and bloody political crime. It is senseless to anyone with his/her right mind to be convinced that Judge Birtukan Mediksa has committed any political misdeed leave alone a crime that could entail life time imprisonment. Her explanation with regard to her release was/is crystal clear to any ordinary citizen let alone to a person with the ABC of legal and political know how or rudimentary political and legal understanding. It is extremely disturbing to see the direct repetition of the political tragedy of the 1970s and early 1980s. Have we ever thought that we have gone through a horrible political experience for more than 35 years?? Have we ever asked ourselves seriously that how it is extremely disturbing to loose basic human dignity(being a typical example for abject poverty) due to lack/absence of good governance? Imagine how Meles Zenawi is evil-minded when he tell us that he will never set Birtukan free for the simple reason that she stands firm against all kinds of age- old sufferings in her country.
Have we ever realized that the main instrument of illegitimate governments was/is terrorizing, intimidating, torturing, imprisoning and killing those political figures such as Judge Birtukan who are courageous enough to play a leading role in fighting for the prevalence of freedom, democracy, rule of law and prosperity? Their(rulers’) dangerous strategy emanates from the very disturbing political arrogance. This political arrogance manifests itself when dictators try to prevent the people from rallying behind strong and genuine organizers/leaders like Judge B. Mediksa. They believe that if they crackdown the role models/leaders of of the struggle, the poor Ethiopian people will surrender to their merciless political power. Yes, tplf is telling us directly or indirectly that the Ethiopian people cannot carry on their causes to the end if leaders like Birtukan are put under their cruel control. Will this work? Absolutely not! It is a matter of time. But, time by itself have no magic to end our miserable lives. It is only when we work hard through time that we can change our dreams in to realities.
dear aleka teklle please stop writing rubbish article about kedetu it seems to me you are either delusional or some under cover woyannae .i belive the the second one fits you well.if u have the gut why don’t u submit your senseless article open for comments.
