Tyre burst grounds Ethiopian Airlines plane

AN Ethiopian Airlines plane yesterday had a tyre burst as it touched down at Lusaka’s International Airport onEthiopian airlines a flight from Ethiopia to Lusaka via Malawi.

Spokesperson for the National Airports Corporations, Geoffrey Kapolyongo, confirmed the incident to Post Online that resulted to the cancellation of the yesterday’s return flight to the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

“The plane had a tyre burst when landing at the Lusaka International Airport. No passenger was hurt, they were all safe,” Kapolyongo said.

But Ethiopia Airlines country manager Gabre Alemu who however insisted that it was a puncture and not a tyre burst, assured that no passenger was in any danger and described the incident as a normal occurrence in aviation.

Alemu told Post Online that passengers would leave on another plane today at 15:25 hours (CAT).

He said passengers who were due to fly on the cancelled flight were accommodated at Lusaka’s Intercontinental and Pamodzi hotels as per airline policy while some had already been compensated for the inconvenience.

He said others would be compensated at the airport as they fly out this afternoon.
