ECCL Endorses the “March to Stop Genocide and Dictatorship in Ethiopia/Africa”; Calls on all Members, Partners and Others to Participate

The Ethiopian Canadian Citizen’s League, (ECCL) fully endorses the upcoming “March to Stop Genocide and Dictatorship in Ethiopia/Africa” scheduled for September 13, 2009 to take place in front of the United States Federal Capitol building in Washington D.C.

Founded in 2005, the ECCL is an organization based in Canada and whose vision is a prosperous Ethiopia that enjoys democratic political governance, where its citizens are equal under the constitution and under the law, where its people are united in mutual respect, shared history and values, and in their yearning for a common destiny with a bright future where responsibilities and opportunities are shared equally to the benefit of all. The ECCL also endeavors to support Ethiopian Canadians in becoming proud and productive citizens of Canada.

Since the “March to Stop Genocide and Dictatorship in Ethiopia/Africa” is consistent with the ECCL mission and vision, the CCL feels timely and appropriate to make a formal announcement to endorse and support this grand event. The ECCL strongly encourages all members of our five ECCL chapters in Canada and its partner organizations to support this noble effort to the extent and by all means possible. The ECCL also urges other Ethiopian civic organizations, religious, political, educational, and community groups to express their endorsement and encourage their members to take part in the March.

The goal of the March is no one’s responsibility in particular. It is the responsibility of all of us freedom loving Ethiopians/Africans who hunger to see democracy, rule of law and justice prevailed in our ancient homeland/continent during our lifetime. Since the pre-election rally in Addis Ababa in 2005 that shook the foundations of the EPRDF government, the people of Ethiopia have been silenced; now it is up to us to reverberate that grand March on September 13th!

This is an event that could exert much pressure to change foreign policies towards Ethiopia and Africa so that free countries in the West stop supporting dictators and perpetrators of genocide and crimes against humanity, and instead exert pressure to positively alter the future of our country and of our continent.

Numbers matter in any March. So come one, come all and let’s make this March noticeable in showing our resolve and dedication to the cause of justice, democracy, and humanity.

We hope to see as many of you in Washington D.C. on September 13th, 2009. Those of you who would like to make financial contributions toward the organization of this March, please contact SMNE at http://www.solidaritymovement.org.
