Haile Gebrselassie From Hero to Zero?

The Horn Times Newsletter-August 31, 2012

Ex superstar Haile Gebrselassie’ world caving in as Ethiopians totally boycott his businesses

by Getahune Bekele

Already known for his effrontery, embarrassing coltishness, and greed, the ex distance runner  Haile Gebrselassie, firstHaile Gebrselassie first openly wept for a dead despot (Meles Zenawi) openly wept for a dead despot without considering what the reaction of the living millions would be. Then he was seen at the parking lot of Bole airport sobbing and sulking on the shoulder of the much-feared federal police boss, Workeneh Gebeyhu while security Chief Getachew Asefa and artist Neway Debebe tearfully looking on.

Many Ethiopians, however, are surprised at the speed his multimillion-dollar business empire has come down crushing; with friends and relatives deserting him.

Those in the know said more woes are awaiting the impulsive gnome who kneecapped himself by committing an egregious error of judgment.

“The predicament he finds himself in is his Owen making.  From now on, he will be living a cloistered life, away from millions who once loved and hero-worshipped him. He supposed to remain boldly cleave to his principles.” Hailes’ close companion told the Horn Times.

Last Wednesday’s hastily arranged press conference held at Sheraton hotel in Addis did not help his cause either, instead it compounded the misery.

Haile arrived at the conference hall flanked by TPLF hotshots, among others, Ephraim Yitzhak, Tsion Amdom and the well known TPLF cadre turned priest, pastor Daniel Gebrselassie.

According to a report published on last week issue of a local tabloid, Hailes’ group, calling themselves ‘ the elders’ told journalists that they are working towards securing the release of all political prisoners including Eskinder Nega, Andualem Arage and Zerihun Gebregzeabher.

“I plead with the media to give me support. My desire is to turn prisons into museums.”Haile Gebresilassie explained to the gathered journo.

However, a screaming poster Daniel immediately heckled him saying…

“Correction, correction…we don’t have political prisoners in democratic Ethiopia. We are working to secure the release of all offenders…”

Then the conference room turned in to bedlam.

“This is the third scandal to hit Haile since Zenawis’ body arrived in this country. Sorry, he is on freefall” a journalist who was present at the conference told the Horn Times by phone from the tense Addis Ababa.

Haile Gebrselassie owns a resort, cinema, buildings and various eateries in Addis Ababa and in other rift valley towns, all currently struggling to get customers since he shade fake tears for the dead fascist.

Pitiful! Shame on you all who want to bring down a national hero, Haile. For God’s sake don’t you fools realize the environment Ethiopian’s are under; for while Meles is gone the dictatorship remains undiminshed? Even if Haile is sincere, so what? Everyone is entitled to his opinion for if we preach democracy we must be able to practice it. Haile single handedly has raised the profile of Ethiopia. He has invested his hard earned money in Ethiopia and employs over 500 people. What have you done to match that? You can’t even organize in a sustained way for the span of month without strting to tear each other part. I say leave Haile alone. Focus not on the past but on the future for while the dictatorship is still kicking our people continue to suffer.

    Nesanet Ethiopia,

There is a reason why is viewed as a hero for the common man. If he is one of us feri folks, he has on moral basis to be an example. The problem is Ethiopia is that we have too many gods of little things. Cowards are not heroes.

<<>>:- It is a shame on the called TPLF Cadre, Pente Pastor Daniel Gebresellsie to say: “Correction, correction…we don’t have political prisoners in democratic Ethiopia. We are working to secure the release of all offenders…” We already have known Haile Gebresellasie, Daniel Gebresellasie, and Ephraim Yishaq (Isac) were the stooge of fascist Meles Zinawi. They are still serving others even after his death. So, The Ethiopian People have to be careful with these TPLF Cadres, and tell them to mind their own business.

This is the ultimate betryal. Sooner or later all these words of Haile’s will come back to haunt him. It will also be too late to reconcile with the people of ethiopia by then.

There you go again, you are passing jugement living in a free and democratic country on a man who has achieved for himself and Eth. a lot.People in totalitarian societies have two opinions. They confine their real thoughts only to some one close and the official usual bla bla line.Cant you imagine the pressure these woyane thugs put on Haile. He has a lot of resposibility to his family and employees, you are barking at the wrong tree. Haile is not the enemy. You are dimasnteling the reputation icon. What do you achieve at the end: you are alienating an bankruting an ally against the woyane regime.

Birds of the same feather flock together. What make Haile famous is the admiration people gave him. This is called REPUTATION. Reputation is everything; it is the measure of a person’e integrity. Haile has forever lost this singular asset going forward. His reputation is the source his wealth. People went to his business not for lack another, store but for his personal repuation. He, in fact played with the idea of running for a high public office. All that is gone with a single strike, with one kick as we say it in track. The Ethiopian people should take their freely given gift away from him so that he can be humbled and learn what is it is to be grateful. He is afflicted with the Woyane disease of ibrit, ignorance, and thinking with one’s muscle instead of one’s conscience

Haile should be himself,no more and no less! That won him the
heart of everybody. We called him a lion for that but when
he messed up with politics,he chose the wrong way and he should
take the mud out of it. Politics is not mastered by mere smile,
and ur smile is a jok wfor skilful politicians. Go away from those
people that paints u a new look unfit to all of us as one nation!!!

He should have learned from the dawnfall of Mohamood, the artist. Wheever turns a blind eye on the suffering of the people of Ethiopia will end up like him. What the heck is he weeping for? For the demise of his businesses or for the late PM who had never had the faintest love of the country, much to the misfirtune of true Ethiopians, he ruled. As the saying goes “Shameless person cannot be shamed.
